There is a large car park with plenty of spaces available. Parking is free for National Trust for Scotland members, while non-members will need to pay an admission fee.
If you're looking to save on parking or fancy a longer walk, you can also park in the village of Fyvie and walk to the castle, a route of just under 5km that's featured on Walk Highlands.
🦆 Exploring the grounds
One of our favourite things about Fyvie Castle is the extensive grounds. Whether your children love running free, climbing trees or spotting wildlife, there's plenty to keep everyone entertained.
The circular walk around the lake is particularly lovely. At around one mile, it's the perfect distance for younger walkers and is suitable for buggies, making it accessible for families with little ones.
Along the route you'll find ducks paddling on the water, plenty of interesting trees to climb and lots of opportunities to slow down and enjoy the peaceful surroundings.

If you're visiting during the warmer months, don't miss the walled gardens.
Filled with colourful flowers and beautifully maintained borders, they're a lovely place to wander through while enjoying a quieter side of the estate. Summer is when the gardens are at their best, making it an ideal time for a visit.

The castle itself is full of fascinating history and impressive rooms to explore.
When we last visited, access was by guided tour only. They were also offering a shorter, child-friendly version of the tour, which worked really well for younger visitors. It's worth checking before your visit, as tour options may have changed.

One thing we love about National Trust properties is that there's often something extra happening during the school holidays.
When we visited, Fyvie Castle was running its Pictish Trail, where children could search the grounds for lost Pictish stones while learning a little local history along the way.

Of course, if the weather is kind, packing a picnic is another great option. With so much open space, it's easy to find a peaceful spot to sit and enjoy lunch surrounded by beautiful scenery.
