March Play Prompts: Easy play ideas for little (and big) ones.

Spring is finally here. The days are a little brighter, the air feels fresher, and there’s the sense of new beginnings. And the best part? Spring offers so many simple, meaningful opportunities for play with your little ones — no complicated prep required.

If you’re a mum of a baby, toddler or preschooler (and perhaps older ones too) and you’re craving easy ideas you can actually manage, this month’s Spring Play Prompts are designed with you in mind.

No pressure.
No perfection.
Just simple moments that help you connect and enjoy this season together.

Simply getting outside and enjoying the sunshine can bring many benefits. Why not visit a new park to explore?

Hi, I’m Jess. As a former primary school teacher, I know just how important it is to include play in our daily routine. It not only helps support our child’s development but helps us to stay connected too.

All play ideas I share are simple and easy to set up and require very few resources, most of which you will find in your home. They are often open ended so that you can tailor them to suit the needs/interests of your child.

This month’s Spring Play Prompts are designed to give you gentle inspiration when you need it. Think:

  • Spotting signs of Spring on a walk. Download this handy checklist to take with you. How many can you find?

  • Planting seeds and talking about how things grow

  • Painting with fresh spring colours

  • Exploring sensory play with rice, playdough or mud

  • Going on mini beast hunts

  • Singing seasonal songs and reading together

  • Baking, flower arranging or helping with simple chores

Nothing complicated. Just meaningful, everyday play that builds connection, curiosity and confidence.

You don’t need to do everything. Just pick one or two ideas that feel manageable this week and enjoy them together.

If you’d love the full list of prompts to keep on your phone or pop on the fridge, you can download your Spring Play Prompts below and dip into it all month long 🌷

How to Use the Play Prompts

Here are a few easy ways to make them work for you:

  • One a day: Choose a single prompt each day as your “play focus”.

  • Follow your child’s lead: Let them pick which box they want to try.

  • No pressure: Skipping days is absolutely fine — play should feel joyful, not like a task.

  • Repeat favourites: If your child loves one activity, do it again and again.

Remember: these are prompts, not plans. They’re there to spark ideas, not add to your to-do list.

Supporting You as a Parent

At The Thriving Mum Hub, I truly believe that supporting children starts with supporting parents too. You don’t need to be constantly entertaining, crafting, or organising elaborate activities. Simple moments of connection, movement, creativity, and shared play are more than enough.

These prompts are here to help you feel more confident and inspired — even on those “I’m not sure what to do today” days.
